Colworth Park sprints to support community fun run

This year Colworth Park is sponsoring the Harrold Pit run, an annual charity sporting event that’s at the heart of the village community.

The initiative has been going since 1983 and was established for the same reason it continues today; to provide a great day for villagers and visitors and help raise money for village charities. Each year charity funds are raised via runner sponsorship, trade stalls and attractions set up on the village green on the day.

The event, taking place on 23rd April, encompasses four races; from short kids races up to a 5K race around the village of Harrold and surrounding countryside. So far over 400 runners have registered to take part in the 5K race – a mix of fun-runners, fancy-dressers and serious PB hunters alike will all ‘get set’ at the start line at 3pm.

Tina Pritchett, committee member of the Harold Pit Run, said:

“Our sponsors are very important to us, without them we wouldn’t be able have the rides, activities and entertainment that make this day so special.”

She added:

“We’re delighted to have Colworth Park as a sponsor this year. Their support enables us to put on a memorable day for the community and raise funds for lots of great local charities.”

Keith Purdie, Business Development Manager, said:

“We’re very proud to sponsor this event and knows it’s a real calendar highlight for the Harrold community. As well as sponsoring the event, we’ll be down there on the day to show our support and cheer everyone on.”

He added:

“It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know the community. We’re also hoping to see some of the runners at the Colworth Marathon in June!”

This year the event will opened with a performance by local school children. There will be numerous stalls and attractions on the Green, including Bouncy Castle and Maze Run on The Lower Green and Live Music from local band, Victoria Rose, throughout the day. There will also be a chance for villagers to show off their baking skills at The Great Pit Run Bake Off. A number of local businesses will have a presence on the day giving visitors access to everything from a cider tent to local crafts.

If you’d like to take part, there’s still time to sign up. Register to run here. Online registration for both the main race and the school races will close this Friday 22nd April at 12pm.
