Plans to redevelop the site once home to a Toys R Us shop have been approved by councillors. The existing building off the Western Esplanade in Southampton is set to be demolished to make way for 603 flats, shops and restaurants. The proposals for four new buildings of between seven and 25 storeys were agreed by councillors earlier. A fifth building of up to eight storeys has also been proposed but its use will be determined at a later stage. The plans are for build-to-let flats, which would only be available for private rent and not for purchase.

Plans for a £200m development on the old Toys 'R' Us site in Southampton have been approved by Southampton City Council. A planning application was submitted by Packaged Living and Fiera Real Estate in December last year, for the development, entitled: 'Maritime Gateway'. The vacant building is currently being used by the Polish Social Club to store donations that are being sent off in lorry loads to Ukraine. The old Toys ‘R’ Us building will be demolished later this year before the start of work on the regeneration project in 2023.

Packaged Living and Fiera Real Estate have secured planning consent for their £200m Maritime Gateway development in Southampton, situated on the former Toys ‘R’ Us site on Western Esplanade.
