Our Approach

Real estate accounts for 40% of the world’s energy consumption.

We recognise the importance and value of integrating environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) issues within our investment management processes and at every step of the investment life cycle.

We believe that we have a responsibility to our stakeholders – our investors, our tenants, employees, partners and communities – to fully understand the impact of our work and embed ESG considerations into the way we manage our strategies so that we may drive long-term sustainable value and mitigate risks and capitalise on opportunities.

Net Zero Carbon Pathway

In 2022, Fiera Real Estate published its Net Zero Carbon (“NZC”) pathway, which sets out the actions required to achieve our corporate objective of becoming NZC in a cost effective and responsible way by 2035.

The ambitious pathway is reflective of the significant progress that we have already made in this area to date.

Our Strategy

Icon for Accountable

Accountable

We recognise that our business and investment decisions impact the environment, the communities where we operate and the people we work and do business with. Our ESG commitments are built around this belief to ensure that our environmental and social impact is responsible.

Icon for Resilient

Resilient

Understanding, measuring and monitoring ESG and climate related risks are critical to attaining long term asset resilience. We believe that integrating these risks into our investment processes and regularly reviewing our progress in this regard will improve the resilience of our investments.

Icon for Engaged

Engaged

In order to meet our commitments and reach our targets, we know that a strong, collaborative approach is necessary. Our ESG strategy therefore places strong emphasis on working collectively with our stakeholders, employees, property managers, operating partners and the industry to ensure ongoing progress and continuous improvement.

Fiera Real Estate supports
the Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, all UN Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Underlying ‘Agenda 30’ are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”), which address the urgent call to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and to protect our planet.

The targets we have set for ourselves in order to meet our ESG commitments have been aligned with a number of these SDGs, but we have placed particular focus on the below:

  • Goal Image #1
8 decent work and economic growth
  • Goal Image #2
    10 reduced inequalities
  • Goal Image #3
    11 sustainable cities and communities
  • Goal Image #4
    12 responsible consumption and production
  • Goal Image #5
    13 climate action

Sustainable Associations

We also promote responsible investment by providing resources and know-how to industry and sustainability associations. By doing so, we actively contribute to further the development of the industry.

Fiera Real Estate recognizes that the promotion of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (“DE&I”) has a wide-reaching positive impact on our investors, employees and the communities we operate in.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Diversity of thought and perspective fuels our ability to generate innovative solutions, enabling us to build sustainable prosperity for all our stakeholders. As such, we strive to cultivate an inclusive, safe and trusting environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging and can bring their full selves to work.

As we continue to grow, we aspire to achieve a level of diversity that reflects the communities and organizations we serve and support around the globe. Our deliberate approach at Fiera Real Estate has been to embed inclusion and diversity principles across all aspects of our business including the recruitment and professional development of employees, performance monitoring, and retention efforts across our operations. We are working to implement systems to hold our portfolio companies to the same standard and are in the process of implementing such DE&I initiatives.

Action on Climate Change

We recognise the impact that we and our managed strategies have on our planet, people and communities, as well as the critical role we play in transitioning to a low-carbon, more sustainable world.

As such, paramount amongst our objectives is our goal to achieve NZC emissions by 2035. This commitment aligns with the Paris Agreement’s recommendations, which supports limiting global temperature rise by 1.5 degC, and is reinforced through the business joining the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative.

This commitment includes emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, including, as well as our own corporate emissions, our Logistics Strategy, European Real Estate Debt Strategy, and UK Segregated Mandates. Prior to this, our UK development strategies and Fiera Real Estate’s corporate emissions are targeting NZC by 2030. Progress on our NZC Pathway is reported on an annual basis to ensure we are transparent about our actions.
