Packaged Living, the experienced developer of privately rented homes and manager of communities, has launched a much-awaited consultation on their exciting plans for a new Square and homes to rent in the Piccadilly East area of Manchester City Centre.
The creation of The Square and a wider public realm masterplan which will bring restaurants, shops and vital public amenities to the location. Above this lively, active frontage will be approximately 350 one, two and three-bedroom, privately rented homes catering for the growing demographic of city dwellers. The mixed-use focus of the proposals will support new jobs for the area and provide vital investment at an important time.
As with all Packaged Living schemes environmental and social values are at the heart of the design. The proposals select sustainable materials to reduce embodied carbon and focus on residents’ wellbeing through social amenity spaces, active living and cycling. This includes three attractive roof gardens, a residents’ lounge, a gym and bike repair workshop.

Given Covid-19 the approach to public consultation has been considered carefully and agreed in discussion with Manchester City Council Officers and Piccadilly ward Councillors. To ensure safe opportunities to comment on the plans, the consultation includes digital drop-in sessions to replace traditional face-to-face events.
Plans for the development form part of the Portugal Street East regeneration area. The area is collectively known as Piccadilly East and already includes the successful Crusader Works by Capital & Centric, the Leonardo Hotel by the same developer and two further sites by others coming forward. The public realm plans, which will be delivered by the on-site developers, were approved by Manchester City Council in August 2019.
