Climate change represents one of the greatest challenges of our time. In 2018, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned us that to meet the ambitions laid out in the Paris Agreement, we would all need to engage to limit the earth’s warming to 1.5° in order to prevent the most catastrophic events. In response, the UK Government declared a climate emergency and became the first major economy to pass the net zero emission law, requiring the reduction of all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. In November 2021, the UK will host COP26, where parties will come together to accelerate the journey towards a zero carbon economy by ensuring further emissions commitments by 2030. To achieve this, urgent action is required from the real estate industry.
